  1. Whya ren't people satisfied with what they have? when is enough, enough?

    ReplyDelete
  2. the biggest distraction in my life is other people because you have to fit in and it takes alot of time to try and do that, and people are always trying to distract you

    ReplyDelete
  3. I think that the biggest distractions in life are our problems. Problems distract us from what is really important in life. People need to just stop worrying and live life.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think the major distraction is greed and stress. People become so caught up in their OWN lives that they forget to pay attention to the world

    ReplyDelete
  5. because someone has more than you do, you want it and feel like you need to have it

    ReplyDelete
  6. everyone wants to be the most popular in school and want the best technology possible. These distract us from the real important things in life like our future or our school work.

    ReplyDelete
  7. enough is never enough people will never be satisfied for the simple reason that the human race is ever growing and ever evolving

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think that people always want more because their thirst for new technology will never be filled.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The biggest distraction in todays world is getting the newer and better things. All they want is the ipod the cell phone. But they want the new versions of it all.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think the biggest distraction for me in my life is school and the computer. School takes up so much of my time I've lost count of the times I've ditched my friends to do homework go to tutoring sessions. As for the computer I find myself talking a lot on Facebook and other popular webpages instead of really living my life, really visiting my friends or being with my family.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I feel like the biggest distraction in peoples lives is self improvement and the desire for acceptance. This includes having the newest technology and the most expensive clothes so that people look and you and think your beautiful or they covet the things you have.

    ReplyDelete
  12. agree with hiler, people wont be satisfied

    ReplyDelete
  13. The biggest distraction in life would most definetly be our modern technology. If you tried to take something like this away form someone, they wouldn't be able to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  14. the biggest distraction in life is material goods... the want for such materials blinds us from nature and family and all the important things that can be lost if you do not spend time with your family while you are still able you cannot earn back that time

    ReplyDelete
  15. Everyone is saying that the now is what is distracting everyone, and I said the same. But could the past distract us from what we should be focusing on?

    ReplyDelete
  16. to Nick... people say they don't care what others think of them but due to the amount of judgement in todays society some of our most brilliant minds will be hindered for the simple fact that they want to be "cool"

    ReplyDelete
  17. Grace,or anyone else, where does greed play a role? why are we such a "Me" society? What should we focus on?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think that money and material objects are a huge distraction. All to many times people get to obsessed with their desires. When people don't have these "essential" items they become to distracted. In a city like denver is there ever really time to settle down, there is always so much going on there seems to be no serienity. These distractions ultimatly create lazyness we no longer do things for ourselves and we are a people no longer learning but realying on the brains of the creaters (of the product) to do things for us

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think greed will always be in our life, because we will always have wants.

    ReplyDelete
  20. senor hiler i completely agree witht that people are always trying to be in the now and not worrying about their own time

    ReplyDelete
  21. Even the computer is a distraction. We are being distracted as of right now but do we even notice?

    ReplyDelete
  22. The biggest distraction in people's lives right now is time. People are too concerned with their busy life. Any free time that people have is so important that it is hardly ever used for self reflection and silence. Free time is used for entertainment instead of important things. With our noise-on society there is no value placed on the quiet. We can drive without listening to music. Solitude is rare in our society.

    ReplyDelete
  23. We are human and there is nothing we can to do change this. Being greedy is part of being human. Why can't we want what we have?

    ReplyDelete
  24. were are being distracted by what is important to us...our friends and family. our priorities need to be set and pursued

    ReplyDelete
  25. Is it bad to live in a "me" society? Because as far as I'm concerned its important to focus on yourself and your well being.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Caleb I think that the past can distract us because we are not only worried about what we are going to do, but also what we have done and how it will affect us and our decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  27. we should focus on our future and our life. we should not look at what everyone else has. Focus on your life and what you want. live your own life and dont let anyone control your life.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think its healthy to eat out of a dumpster like that guy. I'm not gonna end up like that guy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Emily, I don't think that we always see the distractions around us because we're so used to them. But I agree with you

    ReplyDelete
  30. ~ The distraction that is the biggest problem is there is not enough time in the day, and so we rush everything that we need too do for just a liitle time of peace.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The biggest distraction i would say is technology. Its such a big part of everyday life, no one would give it up to take time and really focus on whats important.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Greed is the main drive for many people through life. they use the fact that someone has something they don't to set a goal that they will have the same in a short amount of time. We are a "Me" society because we always want what others have and it was just the way we were raised. we should focus on helping others rather than furthering ourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Technology has taken over. I know this is a horrible example but i will use it. Texting... you cannot connect with people over the phone. What the heck has happened to the days when you go and have a face to face conversation? now people poor their hearts out online and through their phones.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with Audrey. We always talk about how we need to find ourselves and be our own person. So what's wrong we a "me" society?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think we are such a me society because we are always told that we have to focus on ourself if we want a good job and being successful, and all of our lives we have been told that good jobs are necessary to be happy and wealthy. Since we have been told this from a young age we never end up questioning if it really is necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think that cell phones are a huge distraction. People are always worried about loosing them or breaking them. I know that if I break a phone I have to get a new one at least two days later.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Everyone knows that deep down inside we always want money, so we can get the things we want. Then again it is very possible to have way to much greed.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree with Audrey we need to focus on ourselves but a balance between focusing on ourselves along with others would be better

    ReplyDelete
  39. money may make you happy but find what makes you happier and use money to pursue it...maybe it is a dream,a goal, or a sport

    ReplyDelete
  40. But Audrey, is that a selfish proposition? Would the world be richer if we gave more/focused on others? I'm not saying that we shouldn't focus on ourselves, because we should-but should we be reaching out more to others?

    ReplyDelete
  41. money=power but it also equals greed and regret unless you know how to use it, if you use it in the right way u can be very happy and hav a good life

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jamie is txtiing behind her computer right now!

    ReplyDelete
  43. to Audrey, as important as it is to want a better life for our selfs and take care of our selfs, but we loose focus on what we really need to accomplish those two things. Those things are the distractions everyone is talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Are we too much of a society of "want"?

    ReplyDelete
  45. When I think of a "me" society it reminds me of Darwin and the fight of the fittest where you look out for yourself first in order to succeed

    ReplyDelete
  46. I feel that money is important to live, but it isnt everything. Happiness is defined by experiences, not material objects.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i agree with jamie. cell phones are a huge distraction

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't think we are too much of a society of want. If the wants inspire you to work hard we are benefiting society. It is only a problem when people try to take a shortcut to get rich quick.

    ReplyDelete
  49. money I think is important to sustain life but I think its people who are really the true happiness

    ReplyDelete
  50. Most adults believe money defines them, they view each others success based on how much each makes. they believe if they have more money they will be happier because they can afford to do the things they want. When money controls your actions then you really don't have the time to judge your beliefs about money

    ReplyDelete
  51. is our society really one of want... or want of acceptance?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mrs. Comp, i agree with you we should reach out to others because by doing that it can make you a better person. By helping people less fortunate then yourself, in a roundabout way your helping yourself become better. As selfish as that may be i think life is about making yourself a better person.

    ReplyDelete
  53. If our material items make us successful somehow then great. But I agree, it's a false sense of happiness-Alena.

    ReplyDelete
  54. people hav drams and want a lot of things, but deep down they know they wont get there by just being lazy and doing anything about it, if you work hard you can get the needs and then you work on the wants

    ReplyDelete
  55. Money is not necessary to be happy. Our society lives on money. Money represents our next meal, our house, our clothes. I feel that the experience you have in the mountains is more important than the house you stayed in. Life is about the experience not the money.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think that everybody "wants" and just like nick is saying as im typing this, because of what people want, it makes them work harder to get those things...
I WANT AN OOMPA LOOMPA NOW!

    ReplyDelete
  57. ~ I think the older i get the more i feel like i need to be better in life. I don't want to have a care in the world, but that is not reality. Reality gives hard cruel lessons, showing that what you want is not always what life gives you.

    ReplyDelete
  58. companionships/relationships, finding someone to love is what makes life worth living

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree with Will, its not bad if you earn every cent you make. If that what drives you, so be it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think that our current society uses material things to compensate for something that they are missing inside; either love or religion. I don't think people would be shallow if they were satisfied with themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Caleb, if that be the case is it bad to be distracted?

    ReplyDelete
  62. me to andrew that would b awesome

    ReplyDelete
  63. It's important to be yourself and not anyone else. But it's also important to be kind and reach out to others. I think we are confusing both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Andrew! oompa loompas are scary looking why would you want one?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Whats important is finding out who you are. Quit trying to please the crowds, be yourself, laugh, think about life, and live in the moment. If I die knowing that 1)I figured out who i really am and 2)I made a difference in somebodies life then i will be happy. That is the meaning of life.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I agree with emily the line between focusing on yourself and being kind to others is blurred

    ReplyDelete
  67. i agree with senor hiler, live your life the way u want to, not the way other people want you to live

    ReplyDelete
  68. Our personal thoughts, beliefs, and relationships are truly most important in our lives. It is important to live above this social stratification we surround ourselves in. Through right and wrong we find out for ourselves what is important

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think only you can define if you have been successful in life. If you do the thing you love, you may or may not be good at but if you are happy with what your doing then only you can decide whether what you have done in your life was worth while and successful.

    ReplyDelete
  70. save a life....happiness will follow:)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Im not sure if i know what is important to me. I dont believe i am at that time in my life to decide yet

    ReplyDelete
  72. whats important is making yourself better. Through things that make you happy. For me thats dance or helping my 3 siblings grow or hanging out with friends and family and people that care.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well Audrey, i guess it depends on what you're distracted with. If your distracted with your family, by spending time with them or even money, that would be a fine distraction to have. But if you feel like buying stuff for your family is the only way to keep them happy, then you've become distracted and have lost focus.

    ReplyDelete
  74. When are you the most happy? Where do you find satisfaction?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Caleb what do you think we should be focused on then?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Grace- is there a specific time to find out what is important?

    ReplyDelete
  77. (Life shouldn't be printed on dollar bills. ~Clifford Odets)

I think we need money to sustain life, but we don't always need money to have happiness.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think as teens, most of us are confused and don't know what they want to do with themselves. My brother is a sophomore in college and just declared his major. He went into school not even knowing what he wants to do. But as long as we can find something and be happy about it, that's all that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'm the most happy when I paint or draw I feel like I'm creating and showing people a world that they haven't thought of before.

    ReplyDelete
  80. im most happy wen im alone roken out to my tunes, i think thats y i enjoy driving so much and why i love nature and doing things in nature like skiing and hiking...

    ReplyDelete
  81. I am most happy when I get to do the things that make me happy like travel or fly a plane.

    ReplyDelete
  82. what makes me happy is, teaching the younger generation what they should try to be. For me its a chance to help them become what may change the world some day.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Grace, now is the most important time to figure that out. Because as you and all of us for that matter know for a fact if we don't discover ourselves now we wont have time to later. Isn't there something inside us who asks... Wow who am i? what do i stand for? And when God asks you in the last day what will you tell him you did with your life? Besides watched charlie and the chocolate factory and learned the words to the golden ticket song.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Im the most happy when im not distracted. No homework, not worrying about weight, and just hanggin with people i want to be around. whether if its my best friends or just me and my brother playing guitar, that is when i'm most happy.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I agree with Emily. Life is not about just going through the motions, its about doing everything you can to be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I don't honestly know when i'm most happy. There are times when I'm happy doing a project, or when i'm painting, or if i playing sports. But the next day I could hate it all. So I don't know if I have a specific time when I am most happy

    ReplyDelete
  87. sometimes the material goods that you own make you feel good about yourself and give you confidence making you successful and happy

    ReplyDelete
  88. Its about a 4 on my rictor scale when it comes to acquiring things Ive never been a big fan of going to the mall and buying a bunch of new clothes or stuff but I do put things I want and need on my christmas list.

    ReplyDelete
  89. i feel like not many people could live without it.

    ReplyDelete
  90. definitely, i have been to many different countries and see amazing things. i wouldn't trade any of those experiences for a material item. i went to peru and saw machu picchu and was blown away when i saw what they had build in the mountains. being there and seeing it for yourself, you cant compare to anything.

    ReplyDelete
  91. to nick... Music is the most magical thing in the world. It is a form of expression unlike any other

    ReplyDelete
  92. Grace, what we should be focused on is different for everyone. For me its working hard on whatever i'm doing, and caring for my family and friends. What are your focuses?

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think it would be possible to part with technology but i dont know if i would actually want to

    ReplyDelete
  94. I really like material things but if i had to i could live without them. I just don't really want to

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hillary, that was beautiful. I can totally relate too. My version of painting or drawing is dance, when i dance its the only time in my life i feel 100% happy and satisfied because it makes me feel like I'm explaining to everyone how i feel without saying one word.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I agree with Caleb, I am most happy when all my worries are gone or are not important.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Satisfaction means many different things for many different people. When I am focusing on other activities such as skiing just being out in nature. It's relaxing to just be out there. Warren Miller talks about how the sport of skiing as changed but the reason people come back is not for the new skis but for the fun of going down the mountain in control of your own actions.

    ReplyDelete
  98. i know wat u mean z ive been to rome and florence and venice and those places are amazing u hav to see it in person to know what its like in the world pictures show alot, but they dont show wat life is like in those areas

    ReplyDelete
  99. I agree with senor hiler, music is awsome. I hate some music, but all music is one, if not the, best ways to express yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  100. audrey, i might have to dissagree...sure it is great to let your emotions out through drawing or dance! i totally agree. but what happens when you stop improving or start making misktakes you have never made... doesnt it bring you down?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yes I probably could live with out my cell phone. I went 16 years with out one. But now that I have had a phone i find it hard to put it down. So i think i could manage.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I disagree with what matt said. I don't think it's sad that we dont connect with people face to face. I think technology is an amazing tool and we do still talk to people face to face. It's astounding that I can go online and talk to my friends that live all over the world. Face to face connection is important, but so is keeping up with other relationships. If technology wasn't around I would have lost half the relationships i've made over the years. Technology is a good tool as long as it is not abused.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I agree that technology is running the world, even to the point of school work. Hardly ever do i get actual homework sheets or papers to turn in. It feels like everything i do is on moodle or some other homework website. Its everywhere, and honestly i would rather have papers not typing.

    ReplyDelete
  104. My life would be very different if I parted from my material items. I think maybe for a month tops, I could go without my cell phone but for my whole life, probably not. Technology in general has changed our culture/society. My mom and aunt have told me stories of what they used to do for fun and to me, it sounded like more fun to me.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I have come the point in my life where I rely on music so highly that it has become really hard to do something without music that I would normally do with music. Whenever I'm working I have my ipod. Whenever I'm doing homework on the computer I'm also on itunes listening to music.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Sydney, no. It makes me strive to be better and work harder and when you love dance as much as i do there is nothing more liberating then becoming better at what you love to do.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Well I think about acquiring new things in a different light. I want to acquire a richness that comes from seeing things that are different and make me think. I don' t think the things I have are really that painstakingly just distracting and hindering. With the correct balance and usage of technology in can help. Ipods are a way to release energy and "tune out" computers can help us reach information that we otherwise would find hard to grasp. Cell phones mostly keep us in touch when you need to pick up a phone and call your mom or dad to let you know where you are. But all of these things seem to get out of hand these thing are purely to use not to slober over and today we want the technology to do everything for us. Lesser can become more of an interest and exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I think that if parting with technology would be extremely hard, but if we had to it can be done. Also after a few days of not having it would get a lot easier.

    ReplyDelete
  109. i think music has become a huge thing the world and it always has been, i cant do homework without music on sometimes i even watch tv with music playing, it keeps my brain multi tasking i guess and i enjoy that

    ReplyDelete
  110. emily what were u gonna say when u pointed at me?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I normally build things up before they happen. I like to do it because it gets me excited for those events and puts me in a good mood.

    ReplyDelete
  112. with the cell phones, How many of you have been at a restaurant and you and the people around you are having a texting conversation and no one is speaking to each other face to face?

    ReplyDelete
  113. I think that when you have something every day it's not as special anymore. That's why I think it's a good idea to lower the drinking age to 18, because then less teenagers would abuse alcohol because it wouldn't be special anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  114. To what Jessica said, face to face communication is not necessary. I find texting a very effective way to spread info. I do believe, however, face to face is much better. It lets you connect to whom ever youre talking to on a much more personal level and can build a relationship with the person much better.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Getting to know someone through technology is hard! Now a day it's almost like we want to talk to a person fast, rather than to take the time. Audrey, i think it's awesome that you still wright letters. I think it's more personal so you can tell more about a person. Or you can feel more like your having a face to face conversation with them.

    ReplyDelete
